Coachella Valley movers based in the valley

Desert Moving is a family-owned moving and storage company, in business since 1987, with its crews, trucks and vault warehouse at 82-585 Showcase Parkway A101 in Indio. Being in the middle of the valley means no town on this page is a long haul: Bermuda Dunes and Coachella are a few minutes away, Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs under an hour, and the high desert about an hour up the hill.

Every move gets the same basics wherever it is: a walkthrough or video survey, a written estimate before booking, furniture wrapped before it goes on the truck, and the option of sealed wooden-vault storage in our building.

Town guides

Towns with their own page

Those pages cover each town in detail. The communities below don't have a page of their own, but they're part of the same service area.

Also served

Indian Wells

Indian Wells is small, about 7 miles west of our warehouse, and almost entirely made up of country clubs and gated golf communities. Many homes here are second homes, which means moves tend to cluster around the start and end of the winter season, and HOA rules on truck hours and parking are the norm rather than the exception.

Every March the BNP Paribas Open fills the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and the roads around it for two weeks. If your move falls then, pick a date away from the busiest match days. If you're closing up a seasonal home, we can pack it before it goes into storage; see full-service packing.

Desert Hot Springs

Desert Hot Springs sits on the north side of the I-10, across the valley from Palm Springs and about 26 miles from us. It's known for the spa resorts that pump hot mineral water from their own wells, many of them small inns tucked into residential streets.

The north side of the valley gets strong wind, especially toward the San Gorgonio Pass wind farms. On a windy day we wrap upholstered furniture and mattresses fully before carrying them out. If you're keeping a vehicle during the move, we also offer car storage.

Coachella

The city of Coachella is our immediate neighbor to the east. Despite the name, the Coachella music festival isn't held here; it takes place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio. Coachella itself is a farming city on Highway 86, surrounded by date groves and grape fields, with a table-grape harvest that runs from about mid-May into July.

During harvest, farm trucks share the roads, so a morning move is often the smoothest. For customers leaving Coachella for another state, we handle the whole move through Wheaton World Wide Moving. Long-distance moving.

Bermuda Dunes

Bermuda Dunes is an unincorporated community wedged between Indio, La Quinta and Palm Desert, just a few miles from our door. It takes its name from the Bermuda Dunes Country Club, which opened in 1958 and has about 1,400 homes and condos in and around it. The community also has its own small private airport.

Because it's so close, Bermuda Dunes is an easy place to combine a move with storage: the drive from your house to our vaults is a matter of minutes.

Thousand Palms

Thousand Palms is unincorporated and lies north of the I-10, about 13 miles from our warehouse, at the foot of the Indio Hills. Its best-known neighbor is the Coachella Valley Preserve, with the palm oasis that gives the area its name.

From Thousand Palms, most of the valley is a short drive along the I-10, so moves to Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage or Indio are quick ones.

Thermal

Thermal is farm country in the southeastern valley, beyond Coachella. It's home to Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport and The Thermal Club, a private motorsport club. Properties out here are spread out, often on ranch or agricultural parcels, so let us know about gates and long private drives when you ask for an estimate.

Banning

Banning is at the western end of the San Gorgonio Pass, at about 2,350 feet, where the desert gives way to the Inland Empire. Summers are noticeably cooler than on the valley floor, and the pass is one of the windiest corridors in the country. Banning is also home to Sun Lakes Country Club, a gated 55+ golf community, so check its HOA's move-in rules before you book.

Morongo Valley

Morongo Valley is the first town at the top of the Highway 62 grade, where the road climbs out of the desert floor through a narrow canyon on its way to Yucca Valley. On the east edge of town is the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. Many homes sit on rural lots, so tell us about road and driveway access when you ask for a quote.

Pioneertown

Pioneertown, in the hills north of Yucca Valley along Pioneertown Road, was built in 1946 as a Western movie set and still has its false-front Main Street and Pappy & Harriet's. The homes around it are scattered across rocky, rural parcels, so access is the first thing we'll ask about.

FAQ

Common questions

Which areas does Desert Moving serve?

The whole Coachella Valley, from Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs and Cathedral City in the west to Indio, Coachella and Thermal in the east, plus Banning and the Morongo Basin towns up Highway 62. For moves out of the area, we work as an agent for Wheaton World Wide Moving.

Do you move to and from Desert Hot Springs?

Yes. Desert Hot Springs is about 26 miles from our warehouse and part of our regular service area. We handle local moves within the city, moves across the valley, and packing and storage for customers in between homes.

Is there a moving company for Indian Wells, CA?

We serve Indian Wells from Indio, about 7 miles away. We regularly work inside its country clubs and gated communities, and we can pack and store the contents of a seasonal home until you need them again.

Where is your storage located?

Household storage is at our warehouse in Indio. It's full service: we pick up, seal your belongings in wooden vaults, and redeliver anywhere in the areas on this page. Call ahead when you want access or a delivery.

Is my town too far for a local move?

Probably not. If it's in the Coachella Valley, the San Gorgonio Pass or the Morongo Basin, we cover it. Ask for a quote and tell us both addresses; the written estimate accounts for the drive.
