About Desert Moving
One local company for moving and storage
Desert Moving Co. & Storage is a family-owned moving company that has worked in the desert since 1987. Our office, crews and warehouse share one address in Indio, and as an agent for Wheaton World Wide Moving we can take a move well beyond the valley when you need it.
What sets a desert move apart is the heat, the gates and the gaps between homes. We plan summer jobs around the hottest hours, work with HOA and gated-community rules every week, and when your new place isn't ready, your furniture goes into a sealed wooden vault at our facility instead of a rented truck.

How it works
From first call to the last box
Every job starts with a conversation and a written estimate, which California requires before any household move. You know the plan and the price before a truck is booked.
On the day, the same crew wraps, loads and unloads. If your belongings are going into storage, they stay with our team the whole way, and you never have to load or unload a thing yourself.

Call (760) 200-9494 or send a few details. We go over dates, addresses and access, look at what's being moved, and put the estimate in writing.

Packing and moving day
The crew arrives at the agreed time, packs anything you've asked us to, wraps furniture in moving blankets and loads the truck.

Delivery or storage
Furniture goes into the rooms you choose at the new home, or into sealed wooden vaults at our facility until you call for it.

What does a full-service moving and storage company do?
It handles the whole job, not just the driving. A full-service company packs, wraps and loads your belongings, moves them, and places them in your new home. If there's a gap between homes, the same company stores everything and delivers it later, so your things never pass through a stranger's hands.
What is included in a full-service move?
With us, it includes an estimate in writing, furniture wrapped in moving blankets, loading, transport, unloading and placing each piece in the room you choose. Packing, taking furniture apart and putting it back together, and storage can all be added. See packing services for what the crew packs.
How long will a moving company store my stuff?
As long as you need. Some customers store for a few weeks between closings; others keep a household in our vaults through a months-long renovation. Your belongings stay sealed in wooden vaults at our facility, and you call ahead when you want to visit or schedule delivery. More on household storage.
What are red flags when hiring movers?
Be wary of a mover that won't put the estimate in writing, quotes without asking what you're moving, or has no local address you can visit. In California a written estimate is required before a household move. A real office, a real warehouse and reviews you can read are good signs.
Do you move people out of state?
Yes, though most of our work is local. As an agent for Wheaton World Wide Moving, we can arrange a move from the Coachella Valley to other states and keep you in touch with our own office throughout. Read about long-distance moving.
Is it a problem to move during the desert summer?
No, but it takes planning. From June to September afternoons often top 100°F, so ask for an early start and book ahead, because morning slots fill first. Keep medicine, electronics and anything heat-sensitive with you in an air-conditioned car.
