Why us

A La Quinta move, planned before the day

  • An estimate at home or by video

We walk through the house with you in person or on a video call, then put the price in writing before you choose a date.

  • Gate and HOA rules built in

Send us your community’s move-in rules and the gate details, and we schedule the crew and the truck to match them.

  • Taken apart and put back together

Large furniture is taken apart for the trip and reassembled in the new house, and we can unpack the boxes for you as well.

Who we move in La Quinta

We move people into, out of and around La Quinta: full-time families, retirees, and part-year residents who spend the winter here and the summer somewhere cooler. Every job starts with a walkthrough or a video survey and a written estimate, so the price is settled before a date is booked.

Our trucks leave from Indio, a short run west on Highway 111 or along the I-10, which puts most La Quinta addresses well under half an hour from our warehouse.

PGA West and the other golf communities

A large share of La Quinta lives behind a gate: PGA West, Rancho La Quinta, the Citrus Club and a string of smaller golf communities. Each HOA writes its own rules. Some only allow moving trucks on weekdays, some ask for a certificate of insurance before the crew arrives, and many want the truck parked in a particular spot so it doesn't block a cart path or a neighbor's drive.

Ask your management office for the move-in rules before you pick a date, then send them to us with the gate code or guard contact. We plan the day around them.

The Cove and Old Town

La Quinta Cove sits right up against the Santa Rosa Mountains, below the trailheads. It has no traditional HOA, so the rules are the city's rather than a board's, and homes range from older desert cottages to new builds on the same street. Nearby Old Town La Quinta, with its Spanish Revival storefronts, has apartments and condos above and around the shops.

If you're moving on a street with tight parking or a steep drive, tell us when you book. We'd rather know about it in the estimate than find out on the morning of the move.

Seasonal homes and snowbird schedules

La Quinta has been a winter escape since the La Quinta Resort opened in 1926, and the city still fills up from about November to April. That shapes moving here. Buyers often close in the fall and want furniture in before the season starts; sellers often leave in spring. Book those months early.

If you're furnishing a second home from out of state, the contents can go into storage with us until the house is ready, then come out in one delivery.

Golf tournament week in January

Each January the PGA TOUR’s American Express is played at PGA West and La Quinta Country Club. In recent years the city has closed parts of Jefferson Street and Avenue 54 on the tournament’s concert evenings and asked PGA West residents to use the Madison gates. If you’re moving into or out of PGA West that week, tell us when you book so we can plan the route and the time of day around it.

IRONMAN race day in December

IRONMAN 70.3 La Quinta is held on a Sunday in early December. In 2025 its course stayed south of Avenue 52, with roads closed from early morning into the early afternoon and traffic held up in about two dozen communities, PGA West among them. The city posts a detour map for each affected neighborhood before the race, so if your move falls that week, look up yours and pass it on to us.

Packing a La Quinta house

A La Quinta house often holds things worth packing by hand: framed art, a bar full of glassware, golf clubs and a garage of patio furniture. Our crew brings the boxes and wrap, packs room by room and labels each carton. See how full-service packing works.

Storage while you close or renovate

If you're remodeling a La Quinta home before moving in, or escrow runs late, your belongings go into sealed wooden vaults in our building in Indio. Call ahead when you want them back and we'll schedule a delivery. Our storage services.

Leaving La Quinta

Not every move stays in the valley. We're an agent for Wheaton World Wide Moving, which lets us take a La Quinta household to the coast or across the country. Local moves are still most of what we do.

Efficient and careful, Desert Moving Company moved some of our furniture from La Quinta to Laguna Niguel. I would recommend them.

The whole experience of picking a Moving Company to packing the house and loading the furniture (from the Salesperson Honey to the wonderful Packers to the Driver Joseph) was handled professionally. I would definitely recommend this group to anyone contemplating a move!

We had packed much of our belongings ourselves and left all of the more difficult items for Desert Moving Company. They came in and quickly and efficiently packed all of our most difficult items. They were respectful of our artwork and furniture and worked very diligently. Our belongings are in storage for 5 months but I am confident everything will be in good condition upon delivery.

Great movers. Hard working, very careful. Very accommodating. We had a small miscommunication which they came back quickly to fix. I highly recommend them! Abraham and Diane work the phones and schedules, Joe corrected estimated the needs, and Jesse, Andrew and Jorge provided the braun and moving expertise!

FAQ

Common questions

How far is Desert Moving from La Quinta?

About 10 miles. Our office, crews and warehouse are in Indio, so a La Quinta job doesn't carry a long drive at either end of the day.

Do you work with La Quinta HOAs and gated communities?

Yes, all the time. Get the move-in rules from your HOA or management company, including allowed days, hours and any insurance certificate they need, and pass them to us with the gate details. We schedule the crew to fit those rules.

How much does it cost to hire movers in La Quinta?

It depends on the size of the home, how much packing you want, stairs or long carries, and where the truck can park. Before any household move in California you get a written estimate from us, so you'll see the full price before you commit.

Can you pack my La Quinta home for me?

Yes. We can pack the whole house or only the fragile rooms, such as the kitchen, art and glassware. The crew supplies the materials and labels every box by room so unpacking is straightforward.

When is the best time of year to move in La Quinta?

October through May is the most comfortable, but it's also when snowbirds arrive and leave, so dates fill quickly. Summer has more open dates; afternoons are very hot, so ask for a morning start.
